EXECUTIVE INTERVIEW

John Kelly,
SVP Middle East, Africa & Central Asia, Rolls Royce

How much of Rolls-Royce’s business originates in the Middle East? How important is the regional market to you and why?
The Middle East is hugely important to Rolls-Royce. Within our civil aerospace business, we work closely with all major airlines based in the region and power more than 170 aircraft that are currently in service. We also maintain a substantial order book that will see our presence in the region grow even further in the very near future.

What are your key predictions for the aerospace market in the Middle East?

The Middle East remains a region of high growth for the aviation sector and we expect that growth to persist. There continues to be buoyant passenger traffic across the region and airlines are expanding their widebody aircraft fleet to cater to the increasing demand.

Which industry sectors are you focusing on in 2019 and why?
We remain focused on civil aviation, business aviation and defence.

Why is the Dubai Airshow important to Rolls-Royce?
The Dubai Airshow is a crucial aviation event in the Middle East and is very important to our business. It is key opportunity for us to gather with our customers and industry peers.

What are your objectives for the Dubai Airshow? Can you tell us anything about what you are looking to achieve at the 2019 show?
Our key objectives are to promote the successes of our Trent family of large aero engines, which to date have achieved more than 135 million flying hours and continue to push the boundaries of what is possible with a large aero engine, as each new model sets new performance benchmarks for civil aviation. Members of the Trent engine family are now in service on the Airbus A330, A340, A350, and A380, as well as the Boeing 777 and 787 Dreamliner.
We will also highlight progress toward our IntelligentEngine vision, which is moving at pace toward a future where our engines are increasingly connected, contextually aware and comprehending, and as a result, more intelligent.

What will Rolls Royce be bringing to the show in November that attendees need to know about? Will you be demonstrating any new technologies or products?
We will proudly showcase our engine technologies, and truly demonstrate the Power of Trent, alongside the technologies that are part of the IntelligentEngine vision, which we see as opening new opportunities to pioneer the way we provide power to customers.
