Exhibiting at the Dubai Airshow for the first time since its establishment as a fully-fledged independent geospatial intelligence company, Abu Dhabi’s Bayanat, under the Group42 umbrella of companies will be showcasing its wide expertise in the fields of remote sensing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), autonomous vehicles, smart city mapping and R&D, to a global audience.  Additionally, Bayanat will also feature its range of Drone Applications and how they are actively changing strategic aerial surveying across the UAE.

Bayanat combines conventional and cutting-edge survey equipment and software, GNSS, terrestrial laser scanners, and mobile mapping systems to survey, create 3D maps, undertake indoor mapping, provide road asset information, and comprehensive navigable data. However, its drone applications are making the biggest waves. According to Bayanat, the use of drones and computerized AI is taking aerial surveying beyond infrastructural and technical norms.

Bayanat offers a wide range of drone-based applications and provides seamless end-to-end solutions that combine geospatial data and AI, delivering valuable insights. It empowers its clients across a diverse range of sectors, including transportation, energy and space, through its drone-based applications.

Drone Mapping is considerably faster than ground-based methods and because land development projects are always on a strict schedule, speed is critical. Land development requires topographic maps, boundary outlines, construction surveys and land assessments but ground-based surveying and mapping requires a team to perform these tasks, all of which takes time. A drone can capture all the data at once with just a few scans of the area.

Applications like “3D Mesh”, which is now extensively utilized in airport design and build projects, airport security, obstacle information and navigation, can be used to create a representation of the world which consists of thousands of points and polygons denoting terrain surface, buildings, infrastructure, city furniture and landscape elements in true 3D. To enhance photo interpretability, the images can be covered with textures from drone images.

“Line of Sight” simulations, used in security applications, can be used to accurately place CCTV cameras in a multitude of locations, especially airports, by formulating 3D analysis which determines visibility between two points over obstructions, usually calculated and projected on a “3D Mesh” model.

The “Threat Dome” evaluates the risk of threats by calculating the distances at which a weapon, like an anti-aircraft gun, is deemed effective versus the flight path of an aircraft. Interactive view domes are used to determine the visible volumetric spaces in a direct 3D distance of a given location. This data is calculated against the currently displayed content of a scene, including the ground surface and symbolized structural features, and even trees or a radar station. You can also create multiple view domes to explore areas that have multiple areas of concern.

“Viewshed” is a geographic area visible from an analyzed location. The analysis can be used to evaluate the best location to place an air traffic control tower so that all important areas of the airport can be viewed, or to determine where to install a signal tower so that it does not obstruct a flight path, but still provides signal to the entire airport. It includes all surrounding points that are within line-of-sight of that area, and importantly excludes points that are beyond the horizon or obstructed by terrain or man-made objects.

“eTOD”, or Electronic Terrain and Obstacle Database, is a digital representation of terrain and obstacles provided as datasets to satisfy specific user requirements for a series of airborne and ground applications, and Bayanat provides these data-sets for the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority.

Due to its geological and topographical variances, the UAE has limitless applications and projects for which drone and AI technology are facilitating the surveying process, whether, civil, industrial, marine, archeological or even agricultural. Bayanat is at the forefront of the industry by developing its UAV services for a digitized future and providing both public and private sectors with accurate and up-to-date geospatial data and innovative geo-intelligent solutions.
