Q: Thank you for speaking with us at the Dubai Airshow. To start, how would you summarize what makes the Euroflir™ 410 stand out?
The Euroflir™ 410 is an airborne electro-optical system (EOS) designed to meet the requirements of a very wide range of missions, from critical military operations requiring target designation, to intelligence and surveillance missions, as well as law enforcement and search & rescue operations. It is not only multi-mission, but also multi-platform, engineered to equip aircraft, helicopters, UAS and aerostats alike. Whatever the mission or platform, operators can rely on exceptional image quality, long-range performance and outstanding situational awareness.
Q: The system is often described as modular. What does that mean in concrete terms?
Euroflir™ 410 is indeed a highly modular system, capable of integrating up to ten different sensors, including a laser designator. It combines four spectral bands—Visible, Near Infrared (NIR), Shortwave Infrared (SWIR), and Medium Wave Infrared (MWIR)—enabling crews to operate effectively by day and night, even under degraded weather conditions. This spectral versatility ensures that no detail is missed, regardless of lighting or environmental conditions.
Q: Artificial intelligence has become a major differentiator in electro-optical systems. How is Safran applying it to enhance the Euroflir™ 410’s operational value?
The associated AI within the Euroflir™ 410 provides a leap forward in operational efficiency and classification. It supports multiple functions such as image enhancement, autonomous target detection, recognition and identification, and even target counting. These features greatly reduce the operator’s cognitive workload, allowing crews to focus on mission-critical decisions. Our AI has already been successfully tested in operational conditions by French security forces, clearly demonstrating its relevance and contribution to mission success.
Q: What about exportability and global accessibility?
The Euroflir™ 410 is 100% designed and produced in France. It is fully EAR500/600 and ITAR-free, ensuring full export flexibility and sovereignty for our international customers.
Q: Safran has recently announced an entry into the small airborne EOS segment. Can you elaborate?
Yes. Through our partnership announced in June 2025 with Trillium, we now offer the ARTIS HD family, a complete range of compact, high-performance airborne EOS from 2.5 to 10 inches. This new offering enables Safran Electronics & Defense to address a wider range of platforms and missions where size, weight, and power are critical factors, while providing even better support to our customers’ specific needs.
